Causes Of Ringing In Ears And Headaches

Written By: admin - Dec• 22•11

Before Going into the different causes of pulsatile tinnitus, we should evaluate some of the problems and symptoms Which relate with this particular disorder.

Pulsating Tinnitus is that ringing or perhaps thumping noise a person hears in their ear(s) absent of any external noise. The ringing in your ears are caused by the pulse of the blood vessels flow each time your heart beats. Thus, the pulsating noise is usually in rythym with your heart beat or pulse. There are two main categories of Pulsatile Tinnitus - Objective or Subjective.

Of the two kinds, objective Tinnitus is one of the most uncommon. It's regarded as being "objective" simply because a physician can use a medical tool to actually hear the pulsating noise inside your ear. Tinnitus is labeled as "Subjective" when a medical practitioner cannot detect the noises in your ear, neither can they explain where they are coming from. This is by far the most common kind of Pulsating Tinnitus, and could be treated accordingly.

Several causes of Pulsatile Tinnitus:

Chronic inflammation is where the sensitive components of the inner ear turn out to be damaged. That is one of the main causes of Pulsatile Tinnitus, and affects a large proportion of tinnitus patients. Because of the inflammation of the internal ear, blood flow towards the broken tissue raises and causes pulsating tinnitus or ringing within the ears.

  1. QUESTION:
what could cause dizziness, headaches, ringing in ears, and blurred vision?
I'm a 15 year old girl. And for the past week or so; I've been dealing with constant dizziness, headaches, ringing in my ears, and at times my vision is somewhat blurred; and it also feels as though the room is spinning and I feel weak. I'm not sick with a cold, fever, or anything like that. And it's sort of scaring me, because I don't know what's wrong. HELP??? :]

    • ANSWER:
      Hi Olivia,

It sounds as though it could be a middle or inner ear infection. You need to see your GP and get them looked at. Could also be blood pressure but at 15 I seriously doubt that.

Don't go on suffering, you GP will be able to give you some medication to help.

  4. QUESTION:
What would cause headaches & ear ringing....I had a cerebrel contusion?
I was wondering what would be the cause of constant headaches and sporatic ear ringing (usually in just 1 ear @ a time)?!?

2 years ago I fell off the top bed of a bunk bed in my college dorm. I woke up the next morning on the floor w/ a pool of blood around my head. Come to find out I fell off the bed hit my head on the corner of the dresser and suffered a serious concusion b/c of it. I was told it was called a Cerebrel Contusion ( brusing on the brain?) I was in the ER for 2 nights. After sleeping the 1st night I woke up blind in my left eye. They explained i had also brusised my optic nerve.

With that being said I can see now in both eyes and u would never know this happend to look at me HOWEVER now I keep getting constant dull headaches accompanied by ear ringing in my left ear. They said after the fall i might have migraines yrs down the road but its only been 2!

Do you think thats why I have headaches now or do you think its something else. I dont think they are migraines just regular but constant dull headaches

    • ANSWER:
if you have had any kind of brain damage then you really should just go get checked.

also those don't sound like migrains but it could be caused by something very harmful! if you hadn't had any serious brain injury before then i would just assume it's nothing... but because of your history i would certainly get it checked out!!

If anyone could let me know what might be wrong with me and how to fix this, that would be great. I have headaches all the time. I had to switch from ibuprofen to excedrin migraine. I also hear ringing in my ears occasionally and trouble breathing. Also, I have trouble staying asleep, and I never feel well rested. Can a cold cause ringing in one of your ears? Please help :s?
I've had a cold for several days now with normal symptoms (sore throat, coughing, nasal congestion, headache, ...). But ever since I got out of the shower yesterday, my left ear has been blocked and I can hear ringing.

Is it related to the cold or something different?

Please help, I don't want to cause damage to my ear by not doing the proper thing.
Also, my hearing in my left ear is not as good. Is it just because it's blocked?

    • ANSWER:
Yes it can, when you get a headace and or fever it can cause irritation in the ears. You may very well also have an ear infection. You probably have water in your ear as well, it will come out in a couple of days, if not, then try turning your head sideways with the ear that has the ringing in it and jump up and down..works everytime with me.

  11. QUESTION:
Can a dental infection cause fainting, headache, low grade fever, eye pressure, neck pain and ears ringing?
I have a broken molar, farthest back on left side. I fainted ar work Weds last week, and again Thanksgiving day, ,and again this afternoon. While flossing Weds night experienced blinding pain at the sight of that tooth. I have just been feeling fatigued along with the symptoms mentioned in my question. At what point would a dentist consider this an emergency and remove the tooth.
My boss won't let me come back to work until I have a resolution I am trying to determine if I should go to my dentist or another doctor. I have no insurance and limited resources and need a quick resolution. I am trying to minimize expense by not seeing multiple practioners.

Please only respond if you have first hand experience or medical background.

    • ANSWER:
You need to see a dentist as soon as possible. you likely have an infection...which can spread and cause systemic illness and symptoms. Iyou do not have a regular dentist, get a referral from family or friend, call and tell them you are in severe pain and may have an infection. Tell them you do not have insurance and ask if you can work out a payment plan. E.R. would be much more expensive and they would refer you to a dentist. Wish you the best.

    HELP?!

    • ANSWER:
If your blood sugar level is within a reasonable range and you still feel dizzy, most likely it is your adrenal glands being overworked. Most likely you are eating a LOW FAT diet and LOW SALT diet, as well as being dehydrated. If you are not getting at least 5 hours of UNINTERRUPTED SLEEP each night, this will contribute greatly to this problem.

Before you see a doctor about this that has no idea what he is doing with nutrition, you can try a few things to see if things don't improve for you.

If you are not eating good fats and focused on eating lots of carbs, you will be producing your energy from cortisol, primarily and your adrenals will be exhausted.

When you sit in a chair for about 5 minutes and are at rest, then stand up quickly and feel dizzy, that is a definite sign of adrenal fatigue. This can affect your thyroid gland and your metabolism will slow down and this also contributes to the problem.

Not eating salt will definitely create this issue. Salt nourishes the adrenal glands and when you don't eat salt, this usually means you are not getting good electrolytes in your body and this also contributes to this problem.

You need to make sure you are getting properly hydrated and that means more than drinking water, but you also need those electrolytes.

Take your total body weight and divide by 2. That number is the amount of water in ounces that you need to drink each and everyday. Along with that, you should consume 1/4 teaspoon of "air dried sea salt" in conjunction with each quart of water you drink. This puts the electrolytes in your body that will give you proper hydration. The typical white table salt you buy in stores like the Morton Salt, for instance, is terrible for you and has loads of chemicals added. Avoid that junk. If you drink ANY diuretic drinks like, sodas, coffee, tea, alcohol, commercially prepared fruit drinks, energy drinks, etc., these all dehydrate you and you will need to add more water to the total to compensate for the water loss due to these diuretic drinks. Take the total ounces of the diuretic drinks and multiply by 1.5 and add that total to the original total to come up with the proper amount of water you need to drink each day.

Make sure you get about 1 to 2 teaspoons of that air dried sea salt for a few days because that is loaded with minerals you need.

The next thing is to change your diet to reduce the carb intake to about 75 grams per day and get plenty of good fats. AVOID ALL BAD FATS like VEGETABLE OILS (soybean, canola, cottonseed, and corn oils) are all bad, fried foods, trans fats, and all hydrogenated oils are very bad for you. Avoid all that completely.

Make a mixture of: 1/3 olive oil, 1/3 sesame seed oil, 1/3 coconut oil and use that for all your cooking where oil is used and mix some balsamic vinegar with that oil for salad dressings.

The headaches you are experiencing are most likely from food allergies. To test a food to see if you have an allergic reaction to it or are just sensitive to it, do this test. Sit in a chair and get calm. Take your pulse rate for a full 60 seconds (not the 15 sec. multiply by four thing). Now put whatever you want to check for allergic reaction in your mouth and chew it for 30 seconds. Then take your pulse again. If your pulse increases more than 6 beats in a minute, you are allergic. If you have type "O" blood, use 4 beats.

The mix of food you should strive for is 40% carbs (75 grams), 30% fats, and 30% proteins. Your 30% fat mix should be in the following ratio: 60% monounsaturated fat (like olive oil); 30% saturated fats (like that in real butter --try to get raw butter made from cows that are fed grass, not grain and coconut oil); and 10% polyunsaturated fats from nuts and seeds preferably, not vegetable oils, NONE of that garbage.

The proteins should be "complete" proteins if possible like what you get from eating the whole egg or a combination of foods that make a complete protein like beans and corn. Animal protein is very good for you if it comes from grass fed cows or wild fish. Avoid farm raised any sea food, it is junk and contains none to minute amounts of omega 3 fatty acids.

Eliminate ALL SUGAR from your diet; ALL OF IT.

To jump start your body's nutrition, I also suggest you get some nutrients from the following place: Call: (800) 370 - 3447 and order these items:

Adrenal Complex --- take 9 of these before noon each day
Tranquinol -- take (2) 1 hour before bed
Melatonin -- take 3 to 5 drops under your tongue before you go to sleep. (this is a very special melatonin, unlike anything you buy in typical stores and is the fully reduced form)

Within a day or two you should see dramatic results and feel much more energy than you do now.

      good luck to you

  14. QUESTION:
Ringing in the Ears? Frequent Daja Vus? Headaches/migraines?
    Hello. I am a 17-year-old female.

I have question.... why is it that I hear a ringing in my ear (generally left or both)...almost like electricity rising? The best example I can give is when a TV is turned off there is an electric sound, but for me it is longer and louder. Sometimes it lasts for a few seconds and other a minute or so. I have no idea what this is, and so I am curious as to what is causing it.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I also get head aches (which I have at the moment) and migraines often....the migraines are so intense that I start to hear voices and my head feels like it is going to explode....and then I feel like throwing up, which has happened often. I have tried to take medication, like Advil or Aspirin but it seems to make my head feel worse and then I vomit.

I also get frequent Daja Vus....which I hate. Everything feels dreamy and I feel like I know this has happened before and that I know what is going to happen, so I try to make it end faster by changing what I believe is going to happen. It makes me feel kind of sick. I have been getting them since I was a little kid, and my older siblings told me that they loved to get Daja Vus, so I had been excited to get them, thinking that they would be great. But when I found out that the things I were having were called Daja Vus, I was not happy, because I hated them. I still get them to this day. I also get things like visions and see supernatural beings. Some people have said that these things are a gift and are cool, others say I am making things up so that I can have more attention and an active imagination, but others have also said that I might have a mental disorder or something....

Oh, I have have a rather bad memory too. I used to remember lots of things, but since I was around 11 (not exactly sure) I started to have a bad memory and it keeps getting worse. Everyone gets mad at me and says that it is just a dumb excuse of mine, because I forget where I put things, what I last said, what events are coming or going, what I last ate, what I did during the week, and so on. People tell me that they are worried about me, that they are angry because I keep forgetting, or think it is natural.

    So, what do you think?
Are any of these things related?
    What does each one mean?

How can I stop this loud ringing in my ear?
I was watching tv and on the computer and all of a sudden I got this very loud ringing in my left ear! It's very annoying! I'm 18 years old and my eyes are bad, could that be a cause of the ringing? I get headaches when I'm on the computer! I haven't been to the eye doctor yet, but I will go in about a couple of weeks! But anyways, is there a way to stop this ringing? It's not as loud as it was when it first started

    • ANSWER:
      Oh, that's terrible.
Tinnitus is not a disease, but a symptom that can result from a wide range of underlying causes: abnormally loud sounds in the ear canal for even the briefest period (but usually with some duration), ear infections, foreign objects in the ear, nasal allergies that prevent (or induce) fluid drain, or wax build-up. Withdrawal from a benzodiazepine addiction may cause tinnitus as well. In-ear headphones, whose sound enters directly into the ear canal without any opportunity to be deflected or absorbed elsewhere, is a common cause of tinnitus when volume is set beyond moderate levels.

  16. QUESTION:
What would cause sore swollen lymph nodes behind both ears?
I have had this for about a week now, headache ,ringing in my ears with muffled hearing, and the swollen glands on both sides of my neck behind my ears.Could i have a ear infection? I haven't had a temp or a earache Thanks any answers will be helpful.

    • ANSWER:
It certainly sounds like an ear infection. I get them all the time. Fever isn't always a symptom, and if the ear infection is internal and fairly mild, it might not "ache" so much as just sound really stuffed up. Take plenty of swelling-reducing pain relievers, like Aleve, and apply a heating pad to the lymph nodes to reduce any discomfort you might be feeling from those. Also, mix half rubbing alcohol and half plain white vinegar and place a few drops in your ears. I find it helps to do it very frequently at first and taper off a little bit as the ear infection heals. It will probably hurt like a b*tch, but the vinegar really does help kill off whatever is causing the infection and the alcohol dries out any moisture that's possibly contributing to the infection.

  17. QUESTION:
Are these headaches caused by zoloft or what?
I have been taking 50mg of zoloft for the past month and a half. I always take it in the morning. I think its really starting to work but just recently I have been getting headaches and slight anxiety at night and I think my ears are ringing.

Do I need more zoloft or what is going on here?

    • ANSWER:
Tell your doctor whats going on and he/she may tell you if he/she has to change the dose or what, and anxiety is like one of the secondary effects of zoloft when youre starting to take it, so dont worry about that.

    Can Tooth infection cause tinnitus?

My dentist suggest me to take out the wistom teeth since he think it cause my ear ringing and headache. anybody had the same experience? does the ear problem goes away after the teeth took out?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi there :) ,

I Recently went to the dentist about a wisdom tooth with an infection, well i did not know it was an infection until i was told, but i do feel for you, its so painful as you descriped the ear ache, shooting pains on the side of your face :( , i was hoping to get my tooth pulled out but i had a chip in it so instead he put in a temp filling made from anti-septic which took the pain away straight away and i am on anti biotics witch also stops the pain and when the infection has gone his going to put in a perm filling , but you have it in lucky :) , as soon as that tooth has been numbed and removed you will feel NO PAIN what so ever, the earache and shooting pains will completley stop. your tooth will be a little bit sore from it being pulled out but it will be a complete relief from the pain you had before, trust me, and the soreness will go after a day.

good luck with your tooth, don't forget to get it back to put under your pillow :p and by the way not sure if you know or not but having a painful tooth removed actually feels amazing at the time, it does not hurt at all, just take a ipod or something to drown out the noise of the tooth being pulled out which makes me cringe xD, good luck x

  20. QUESTION:
Trouble breathing, strange wooziness, gas, ringing ears, stomachaches after eating, etc?
For the past few months, I've been having some trouble with my health. I've been to several doctors, but none of them can tell me anything useful. I found out that I am allergic to many grasses, molds, trees, etc. I also have been switching birth control pills, which I take for PCOS, out of fear it may be a cause, at least partially. One doctor tried to tell me I have anxiety, although I don't have much to be anxious about. Others say allergies, one suggested I have sleep apnea, I've had an echocardiogram to check for heart problems, came back fine. Had a blood clot test when it first started, I went to the ER at the time. They thought it was a bad reaction to some Claritin I took that morning. When it first started, it was in the car on a trip, on the way back I had trouble breathing and dizziness, and my fingers, toes, and face/ears felt kind of numb. Anyway, it's been a few months now and some days I feel mostly fine, and other days (like today) I feel terrible. The thing that concerns me most is the breathing troubles and wooziness. I can't describe them, but the breathing trouble is a shortness of breath, and it is very scary. The wooziness is.. just a feeling like my balance is off or something. It helps to lay down, usually. I do get headaches pretty often, and the past few days I've been getting stomachaches after I eat anything, even something as simple as broth with mushrooms. I also have been getting ringing in my ears, today I had it in my right ear, twice. This never happened so often before. I also have been getting bad gas. Earlier when I had a particularly bad breathing problem, I also had bad gas, and then a bit later, diarrhea. I also (for some reason) seem to have small coughing fits, one of which just happened after the breathing trouble. It may be worth mentioning that I do have acid reflux. I'm only 17, by the way, and female. No smoking, no drugs, no alcohol, nothing like that. I should be healthy. Does anyone have some idea what might be wrong with me? Nothing is adding up..

  23. QUESTION:
Will the ringing in my ear go away once my ear infection leaves?
5 days ago I started with ear pain and ringing in my ears then I went to the walgreens pharmacy on Saturday because all the other clinics were closed and the doctor there diagnosed me with an ear infection and an upper respiratory infection as I also have a cold that started Friday. She gave me an antibiotic and a nasal spray to get the fluids moving so the liquid hitting my eardrum will go away and stop the pain. My question is that after the infection and cold is gone, will the ringing leave too? I haven't had ringing before the pain started only randomly or when I have a headache or no sleep but it would literally last no longer than 6 seconds. Now the ringing lasts all day but I can only hear it when there is silence. I haven't been exposed to loud noise that could cause this ringing. The last time I was was exposed to noise that caused my ears to ring was 2 years ago at one of my friends concerts. Also I use q tips a lot and put it in so maybe that's pushing in ear wax and causing it to block my eardrum and giving me ringing? I an going to see an ENT but I have to wait until tomorrow to call and then wait until I actually get the appointment. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

    • ANSWER:
      Hello.

Your ringing will most likely go away once the infection clears. I know that it can be nerve-wracking waiting to find out if it will go away.

It's important to know the different things that can cause ringing in the ears so that you can protect your hearing. Some antibiotics can even cause or aggravate the condition.

I have suffered from ringing in the ears since I was 12. I am now 25. I created my own website to help people newly suffering from it. If you would like to find out more about it, visit my site:

      http://www.helptinnitus.weebly.com

Good luck! and I hope it goes away.

      Cheers,
      John

  24. QUESTION:
What illness or disease does this sound like?
Right I've been getting these following symptoms for about several months now and the doctors thought it was stress so they put me on Beta Blockers and Blood Pressure tablets but I was sick before stress and now they have changed there mind. Is there any diseases that cause these following symptoms?

    Fullness of the head/ears
    ear popping/jaw popping
    fatigue
    bad vision
    shaky/jumpy and sore eyes
    fizzing sensation in head/ears
    ringing and roaring of ears
    headaches
    night blindness
    dizziness
    joint pain
    hungover feeling

Any suggestions would be very appreciative,

    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
The only thing I can think of right now is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as you do have quite a few of the symptoms but hey, might be wrong. Its probably some sort of infection, not a disease but even so, you should really go to the doctor, he/she will have a better answer than anyone on here.

  25. QUESTION:
I'm 26, is it possible the ringing/pulsating in my ears is caused by high blood pressure?
Can my stressful job and other factors, maybe health cause high blood pressure? Whenever I get upset or frustrated, my ears start pulsating for a couple hours. It's terrible and I think it's caused by stress, but I don't understand how this could be possible given my age. I'm a 26 yr old female that is active and healthy, just a lot of stress with work/school/life- this is accompanied with dizziness, headaches and light headedness

  26. QUESTION:
High-pitched ringing in ears..from what and how to heal?
About 4 days ago I woke up one morning with ringing in my ears. I didn't have the ringing when I went to bed the night before and there were no loud noises during that night.

Ever since then the ringing has not stopped. If I cover my hands to both ears I can hear the ringing.
I can also hear bizarre things, like the high pitched sound of my bathroom light when it's turned on or the electricity running through my computer monitor.
    .
It's as if whatever I hear between 16khz-18khz gets exaggeratedly high. For the first day after I got the ringing even the PA announcer on the tram to work hurt my ears and gave me a slight headache...now it hurts a good deal less.

What on earth is going on and how can I fix this? For the record, I don't have a stuffy nose or any obvious "sinus" symptoms. I sure hope this is not Tinnitus: were are only 28 and only go to loud clubs or live venues about once a month or less for one hour or less at a time.

As if this were not weird enough, this afternoon my girlfriend got the same thing. I would think maybe my motorcycle caused this (engine noise, even though I wear a helmet)...but she mysteriously got it about 5 days after we last rode on the motorcycle.

    • ANSWER:
It's tinnitus. Cause is unknown as is a cure. I have it recuring frequently. You just learn to ignore it, like ignoring the sound of traffic.

  27. QUESTION:
Can fluid in the inner ear cause tinnitus?
    Hello all,
For the past three months I have had ringing (more of a buzzing) in my right ear. It just started randomly one and eventually went away, but then it came back and stayed. Anyway, I went and had an MRI and it showed I had a little bit of liquid in my right inner ear and my sinus area, I was told that it was viral and that it was the reason for the ringing. Anyway, for the past three months all the symptoms with the ear ringing (headaches, head pressure, and stuff) have been going away, and I think the ringing itself has been getting more quiet, at least i find myself searching for it more. So I was wondering if the liquid could be the reason for the ringing. Also if I have blood coming out of my right nostril, is that the fluid leaving? Because when i blow my nose sometimes I get some blood out of my right nostril only.

  28. QUESTION:
Will the ringing in my ear stop?
So I went hunting yesterday, and my dad was shooting on my left. While hunting my left ear rang a bit, but I didn't think much of it. Last night and all today my ear has been ringing, there is a slight pain in my ear, I can't hear well from my left, and its causing me headaches. I've had ringing and temporary hearing loss before which went away in a few days, but its a lot worse than it's been before and the pain is worrying me. Will the ringing and pain go away, and my hearing restored? Or will I need to see a professional if it keeps up?

    • ANSWER:
I would go and see an ENT specialist now, if only to get a baseline audiogram. The specialist should also be able to advise about ear protectors! It may indeed all clear up, but I suspect he/she will want to give you the emergency sudden deafness treatment.

  29. QUESTION:
Did you read about the man who is suing his neighbor for using electronics?
A Santa Fe NM man is suing his neighbor for using her cellphone, wireless network, computer, compact fluorescent light bulbs and dimmer switches. He is also fighting against all public Wi-Fi's.
The man developed symptoms, of EMS, in 1980 while in college. EMS (electromagnetic sensitivity) causes; nausea, vertigo, diarrhea, ears ringing, severe headaches and body aches, crippling joint pains, insomnia, impaired vision and muscular control as well as other potentially life-threatening ailments.
I feel it is sad he has EMS but I really don't see how he can stop the world (with all of the inventions) just because of his condition. Perhaps he could buy his own little island, out in the middle of 'no where', and live.....what do you think?

    • ANSWER:
I'm not sure if I believe him, EMS or EHS has not been well established as a legitimate syndrome:

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_sensitivity

It just doesn't make sense to me how the man would be able to detect his neighbor's devices, if you look at all the TV and radio waves being broadcast, he would be bombarded on a daily basis and should not be able to detect any difference.

The Earth itself is a giant and powerful magnet, surely that would constantly bother him.

Migraine sufferer who passes out and has seizures. symptoms before passing out are ringing in the left ear drop in blood pressure loss of feeling black spots
Ok, just so eveyone who answers knows, and I guess I forgot to mention this before. I already have a neurologist that I have been seeing for many years. I have already been treated at the Jefferson Headache Center by a world renown doctor and am currently being treated by a neurologist at John's Hopkins. I was just wondering if anyone had any other info out there or other websites that may be available with information about this. None of the websites specifically talk about the type of headaches that I have. I am an LPN so I know what to do. I was just looking for research information.

I would suggest getting that information AT THE DOCTORS OFFICE!!!!!

  32. QUESTION:
Is it normal to get a headache from this?
Just recently, I became a lot more into rock and metal music than I was before, and I've been playing the hell out of songs by bands like Metallica, Linkin Park, and Green Day. This morning, I woke up with my ears ringing and a pretty bad headache. Did the sudden change in musical preference cause this to happen to me, or is it probably something else?

Other treatments for jaw clenching your teeth?
For the past few months, I've been experiencing moderate to severe symptoms caused from clenching my jaw at night and unconsciously during the day. Ear aches, ringing in the ears, jaw pain, headaches, and neck pain. I've been using a mouth guard, but it lost its effectiveness. Is there anything else I can do? I'm only 16 and seems ridiculous that I should be having these kinds of problems. Also, is this something that could be caused by depression?

    • ANSWER:
I know exactly what you are going through, I have TMJD as well. Is your mouthguard from the dentist (made specifically for your teeth?). The mouthguard I suggest you try is an NTI mouthguard. Its a little pricey, but it give me so much relief. Get the daytime and nighttime one. Yes, depression can definitely cause physical pain, especially stress and anxiety, it all goes to my jaw. Don't use a store-bought guard, get one made for you, its worth it. Also, ice both sides of your jaw and your neck, with those gel-ice packs, with a washcloth wrapped around it, and ask your doctor/dentist for a muscle relaxer like Klonopin, that's what I take, to help relax the clenching muscles. You can never be too young for any physical problems, or depression, unfortunately....

  34. QUESTION:
How long does it take for a brain tumor to grow and cause symptoms?
    Brain Tumor or something else?
I have been experiencing buzzing and ringing in ears for about a week now! My ears also hurt and I also have headaches, nausea, tiredness, and am extremely dizzy. I had a MRI 6 months ago and everything came back negative, they found nothing. Previous to that I had a CT scan done 2 years ago and everything normal. I am a 29 year old female, with no family history of brain tumors, and was just wondering if a brain tumor could develop that fast (6 months) and cause those symptoms in that amount of time, please help?

    • ANSWER:
Just because there isn't a brain tumor doesn't mean that everything is okay. If your symptoms are bothersome, take your MRI to a neurosurgeon.

Many people go undiagnosed with a condition called chiari malformation. It causes all of the symptoms you mentioned, and several others. Just go to this website and see if it sounds like you. If it does, you'll want to be sure the neurosurgeon you see specializes in chiari.

The following link is to an informational page from the chiari institute in New York:

      http://www.northshorelij.com/body.cfm?id=6409&oTopID=6458&PLinkID=6407

Best of luck to you. This condition is treatable, but not curable. But much can be done to help you, if that's what you have. Most importantly, some doctors are still uninformed and will not diagnose chiari. You need to see a specialist.

    • ANSWER:
You know, you could have migraine.. What causes migraine? Im not very sure.. But, one more thing is, what do you do all day? I mean, you cant be on electric (tv, NINTENDO, wii....) stuff all day. So, you might get it from that.

Maybe, that much sleep isn't enough. Try to go ONLY to sleep on your bed, not to do homework/work or whatever.

Did you know that every item sends this electric wave? Well, if you live near an electric factory or an airport, it sends a lot of waves which, even if you don't feel them, they arrive and can cause headaches. Even your cellphone! Or your computer!

      Tips:

During the day, i recommend you to have coffee with caffeine. It helps, trust me. Or maybe just some plain coffee! It helps a lot, it wakes you up and you can get rid of those headaches.

Well, before sleep, about an hour before, try not using electronics. What's good to do, is you can warm up some tea, and take those cotton disks, wet them and put them on your eyes and fall asleep. That's lovely.

If you have any tv, wii, ds, or computer, try putting it as far as possible from you, or just turn 'em off!

Hope i helped a bit and hope you get better soon! x

  38. QUESTION:
Woke up extremely hot and dizzy?
I have an anxiety disorder, and Ive been wicked tense for the last few weeks. For anyone who is an expert on themselves with anxiety,, I can FEEL my anxiety in my veins.

For the last two nights a few hours before bed, Ive taken Benadryl to help calm my nerves down, and to stop my stomach from being in a tizzy since that causes most of my anxiety. So yesterday when I woke up I slept for like 10 - 11 hours or so, and felt that feeling in your head, if you cry too much, or get too much rest. Also, if I remember correctly, I was a tad bit dizzy but it went away.

(Sometimes when I take benadryl before I go to bed, I wake up... almost with a hangover.. and I took it last night a few hours before I fell asleep)

This morning I turned over to switch sides around 5 am, and got WICKED dizzy. It woke me up. I felt like I was whirling almost. I also noticed I was extremely warm, to the point I was a little sticky. I had two blankets on me too. It was cold when I went to bed, but it got a bit sticky and humid over night.

So I laid down for a bit awake and a bit scared. I looked up some symptoms.. stupid me being a hypoclondriac. About 10 min later I turned the TV on, and got up to go to the bathroom. While doing that I got dizzy again and woke up and got my mom. She came in the living room with me.. i laid back down and put on a movie. I was crying and shaking for a while.

This all happened at 5am. Its now 645, If I lay still, Im fine, but if I move anymore than just turning my head I start getting a bit dizzy.

Im 21 and female. Generally in good health, but I do have an eating disorder and anxiety. Last night I had a small bit of Clam Chowda too. Dont know if thats relavent or not. My grandmother has something wrong with her ears, that cause ringing and her to be dizzy. I dont know how long her spells were or if its hereditary.

My ears arent ringing or anything. But I have a slight headache now from being up, tired, and crying. The outside mostly of my ears and top of my head are a bit touchy. My inner ear, might start to be getting a bit sore, but I cant tell if its from all the stress and stuff.

I am very scared. So please nothing drastic. Im hoping its a start of an ear infection or something, since dizziness only occurs when I move.. I also used to get them when I was younger a lot.
I don't have mercury in my teeth so I know it's not that. And I don't drink tap unless it's boiled. Mostly bottled water. I've been living in the same place for eleven years or so and since this is random I don't think it's that. But I will look more into it.

If this doesn't go away or at least subside i will see a doctor/go to the ER. But I have no health insurance so seeing medical attention for my anxiety is out of the question.

I still only get dizzy wen I move.. Personal experience could it be the thing in my ears?
I'm too afraid to get up ad move..

    • ANSWER:
Are you getting medical and psychological treatment? I don't know if your symptoms are from anxiety, taking too much Benadryl, not eating enough or vertigo from an ear infection, etc.

I do know people with anxiety who have responded well to treatment and have led normal lives, and in some cases, have distinguished themselves.

Please see a doctor, who is the only person qualified to find out what is going on.

  39. QUESTION:
is this a worthy beginning for my story?
The young boy woke up with an empty stomach. a soft buzz rung in his ear, causing a headache.
"Look darling, he is waking up." A slender, mid-aged woman smiled. Her deep red lips crisped into a small smile.
"Hello young man, are you hungry?" The tall man in a dark suit asked amiably.
The young boy's chapped lips pursed in an O shape, straining for sound to come out.
The man stood up and flashed a bright smile. Walking towards the young boy, he ruffled his jet black hair, "it's okay son. Save your voice," he turned to the woman, "Elizabeth dear. The child must be starving."
Elizabeth quickly stood up from her seat and rushed towards the kitchen, "Oh. Oh, yes. Hold on dear, do you like mash potatoes?"
The child's dark eyes darted around the room, ignoring her question. "Look!" His small, youthful voice echoed around the room as he pointed his index finger to a candle.
Elizabeth walked back in the small room with a bowl of mashed potatoes and chucks of chicken. "I'm sorry, this is all we have left." She handed the child the bowl.
He stared at it, unsure what to do next.
Laughing, Elizabeth picked the spoon from the bowl and gently scooped the food into his mouth. "You are young, Charlie I assuming he is about two or three."
Charlie's light brown eyes lightened, "good thing we found him before the guards did, huh?"
The little boy lifted his head in question, gazing at the man.
"The guards don't take kind to street-rats." Charlie explained.
Elizabeth scraped up the last bits of food, "Dear God, have mercy on them. Poor souls. They are so evil that they would kill a small child, just because he isn't fortunate."
    *******************************************************************************************

    Is it good?

    • ANSWER:
Interesting, although what's causing the buzzing? There are a few mistakes that can be corrected when you edit. Put a period after hair and capitalize 'It.' A spelling error, you mean 'mashed potatoes.' Then I'm not sure what he points to she he says 'Look,' so don't glaze over that. There should be a period after 'Charlie' and a new sentence 'I assume he's about two or three.' Same with the next sentence, put a period after 'lightened.' 'Kind' should be 'kindly' unless that's Charlie's dialect.

      Good luck with it!

    Ear fullness and painful headaches!?
For 5 years I have had fullness in my ears, similar to a barometric pressure change, but it doesn't go away for an instant. I have constant ringing in my ears. Every few months or so, I get extremely painful headaches when I change altitude. These headaches only last for around 7 minutes, but it hurts so bad that I can't drive, I can't see straight, I feel like I might seizure any moment, and I just want to pass out. But there is no sensitivity to light, or many other symptoms of regular migraines.
I've been to different specialists, and I don't have an ear infection, I don't have Meniere's disease, no wax build up, and antihistamines don't work. One guessed that I have TMJ caused by my braces but I've had them off for 3 years now and the problem continues... I did have dizziness, but that was cured by repositioning my ear crystals.
I don't know what to do!
    I have seen MANY doctors!

Do you have allergies, sinus problems - or something like that? I'm wondering what might keep fluid there all the time...... eustachian tube blockage?

  41. QUESTION:
Possible causes of feeling heartbeat in various parts of body?
Symptoms have gone on for five months now:

    October:
For no reason, a sudden pain shoots through right of neck, seconds later a large ball of pressure forms in the base of skull. Pressure builds tighter and tighter til I feel a pop and pressure is released. ER visit that night-CT w/o dye and bloodwork performed: normal. Doctor believes it is anxiety and muscle tension.

    November-January
CONSTANT head pressure, I mean 24/7 feeling like my head was in a fog, ringing in ears, pain behind ears. Sharp head pains (almost like zaps of electricity) that last a moment all throughout skull. Sometimes a burning/warm sensation on scalp. Headaches start at back of head and reach up to temples. Lumbar Puncture and more bloodwork performed- normal. Doctors believe its only anxiety.

    February- now
The head fogginess is gone and head "zaps" are very less common. Still have headaches, but are used to them. But recently my blood pressure is always elevated to 130s/80s at rest and high 140s/90s at work, heart rate is usually between 100-120. Newest symptom is always hearing my heartbeat when I lie down. I hear it in my ears and feel it in the back of my neck, sometimes it feels like I can feel it throughout my whole body.

We found out I am pregnant, 5 weeks, and due for my first dr visit April 6. I've informed them about all of my symptoms, high bp and everything, but they don't feel like its a problem this early.

I may be suffering from anxiety, but now that I know I am carrying a baby, I have to be sure everything is okay for both of us. My largest fear is I have a blockage somewhere and that the CT scan without dye somehow missed it. Has anyone else suffered from these symptoms?

I am 21 year old caucasian female, no family history of aneurysms. My family however does have a hereditary heart condition in which a heart valve is not fully developed, but I figure it would have been caught by doctors before now had I suffered from this also. My blood pressure has always been normal until now.

Has anyone ever had these symptoms?
    What are some possible causes?

    • ANSWER:
Sounds like you are having some blood clots/ plaque in your arteries. That would explain why you felt a build up of pressure, and then release that one time as if an artery gets clogged, pressure will build up behind the clot until either it is forced to break apart, or your artery explodes. The doctors wouldn't find anything unusual with blood dye/ scans after the clot was broken down. The constant pressure in your head and tinnitus (ear ringing) can also be a sign of clots or carotid artery disease.

Those symptoms are not anxiety, they are signs of something serious going on and you shouldn't let a doctor tell you otherwise. If you start feeling that pressure again, go to the hospital right away and get them to do a scan that shows the blood flow in the area of pressure.

As for right now, I would suggest monitering your intake of sugar, salt and hydrogenated oils. You need to up you intake of Omega 3 fatty acids to support your good cholesterol and lower bad cholesterol to help minimize the chances of developing more clots/plaque (if that is the cause as I suspect it is). Krill or fish oil are great sources for Omega 3, as well as olive oil. And Omega 3 will also support the health and development of your infant as well, so it is prime to get a good amount of it everyday.

  43. QUESTION:
almost 30 weeks pregnant - high pitched ringing in my ear and a headache?
i know its probably just a coincidence, but i was just wanting to make sure it was nothing to worry about. last night i had a high pitched sound ringing in my right ear - kind of like when a channel goes off broadcast in the middle of the night and the colored bars show up with the "eeeee" sound (if that makes sense lol). it started when i laid down and it stopped after a little while - maybe 15-20 minutes. this morning, i woke up and my ear was doing the same thing. i laid in bed for a while and it continued after i got up and had my shower, ate breakfast etc. its stopped now and now ive got a headache. is this pregnancy related or just happened to show up at this point? ive never had it before and i wasnt listening to any loud music or any loud noises that could have caused damage or anything - nothing out of the ordinary. thanks for your input.

    • ANSWER:
I do not think that this is too much of a concern and it is not uncommon for people to hear a ringing in their ear. I don't think that it has anything to do with your pregnancy, or damage to your hearing. Sometimes the ringing just happens - I have experienced it many times myself in the past. The headache has probably arisen because of the pregnancy, due to the fact that your blood volume is increased and your hormones are changing. This is extremely common in late pregnancy.
I am 35 weeks pregnant myself and wish you all the best of luck with your baby! I know that when you are pregnant, it's hard to stop worrying when you feel aches or pains and such things like this, but I'm sure you will be just fine. Try to relax and make sure you take extra special care of yourself.

  44. QUESTION:
Severe Pain in Teeth and Gums?!?!?!?!?!?
Ok, So on the left hand side of my mouth (The Top) In between my First Premolar (Bicuspid) and my Second Premolar(Bicuspid) Is a sever pain that shoots through both teeth and piercing pain up through my gums, sometimes causing a ringing in my ear and a headache, When anything hits it.. Hot food, Cold Food, Liquids, even air. I can't chew anything over there.

And, on the right hand side of my mouth The eighth tooth back from the center, The very last one (I think it's just a regular Molar) has been half covered by my gums as long as I could remember and never has had any pain. But recently on and off the gums around it have been swelling up and completely covering the tooth and causes a pain so bad that I cant chew over there either. The pain is now spreading to that inside of my cheek and when pushed from the outside of my cheek, hurts as well.

Oh, btw I do not have insurance so going to a Dentist is out of the question for me.

    • ANSWER:
The first tooth sounds like it has a cavity, severe pain is not a good sign, you should just pay to go see a dentist before it gets worse, you could end up with an abscess or needing a tooth extracted or some other horrible dental work. The second gum issue sounds like pericoronitis, I've had this and it went away just with using mouthwash or warm salt water rinses but yours sounds worse than mine was, you'll maybe need antibiotics to shift it. Good luck.

  45. QUESTION:
Headaches, doctors not looking into it?
I am 14 years old and have had headaches everyday for almost two years. I went to my doctor three times before she finally sent me to a neurologist, I went there and they did no tests. None, what if I am walking around normally right now with some scary problem because no one did any tests! I sometimes get my headaches after I go for a really light walk, my eyes get blurry sometimes, I get ringing in my ears, I feel tired a lot of the time and lately I just keep waking up in my sleep. Sometimes I have a headache and I take a tylenol like the neurologist said to but 20 minutes later it's still there, an hour later it's still there and it just keeps going until it stops at some random time. I know it isn't dehydration, I drink a lot of water because I thought it might be caused by that, it isn't stress or anxiety, I exercise often, lately I have been feeling nauseous when I get them too. I was pretty scared that they were caused by a brain tumor and then the doctors said it wasn't so I believed them but then I realized that they didn't do any tests so how do they know and now I am freaked out. I also recently went to the optometrist and she didn't see anything. What causes these??? Anyone pleeeease??

  46. QUESTION:
Does congestive heart failure cause spells of vertigo, headaches in back of head,...?
...top of head - throbbing and back of neck ? sudden low blood pressure. Also heaviness, loss of coordination in walking, sweating, chills, ringing in ears,... Has anyone else had similar experiences ? If so, has your doctor told you ways to avoid or treat it? My relative in his 70's had had this off and on for years and the doctors tell him nothing. What about overexertion, how can one tell if they need to stop working if they feel fine, until the next morning when they get into a " funk" again when the symptoms suddenly start.

    • ANSWER:
I've had some similar symptoms. Unfortunately, I haven't had the money to get the tests I need. I would suggest to find a doctor that is highly recommended- maybe try a few different doctors. They may need to run a lot of tests before they figure it out.

Some things I've wondered about that could be related: migraines or eye-strain; inner-ear problems; chiari malformation; problems with blood flow; stress-related problems.

If the doctors can't find anything wrong with his heart, some exercise might help, but ask the doctor first.

  49. QUESTION:
Do I have a case against my sons school for not protecting him with bully's?
I have been to the school 2 times over bullying. First time (both happened on the bus) a child was slapping his ears causing him to have ringing and a headache. I went to the school and talked with them about this they said they would give the boy a stern talking to. I also requested my son see the counselor because he was very upset about this. The second time it happened I get a phone call on a Friday saying that my son was involved in an incident and he has a little headache but he did kick the other boy in the groin and I needed to talk to him about his behavior. The assistant Principal said after he talked to the boys he believed the other had started it but I still needed to talk to my son about his behavior. When my son got home he told me that he was sitting in his seat and this other boy who had been picking on him had sat down next to him on the bus and blocked my son from leaving. He then shoved my son and my son tried to push through that is when the other boy shoved him down to where he was stuck between the seats and started punching him on top of the head. Another boy began to pull my son by the hair to get him up and a third boy tried grabbing the back pack off my son's face (which he was using for protection) a fourth boy then got on the bus and started yelling " I can help you now" and joined the other boys. At this time in the fight my son was kicking out to get them off him and hit the first in the groin. THEN the driver gets on the bus and pulls them out. So on Monday I go to the school to talk to the Assistant Principal again he told me the first boys parents had come and seen him that morning. And he gave the other boys a stern talking to. I asked where was the driver he stated that the driver helps keep and eye out on the kids on the ground but he was right there about halfway down the bus. I told him my son was having nightmares and fears of going to school and scared that the other boys would get him would they please send him to the coulnselor. Again he agreed. I asked about the video and he said he would get it. While I waited I decided to have my son with me to watch it. When we watched the video (the hardest thing I have ever done.) My son described every detail and he began to cry. THe mention of the bus driver came up again and my son said that he was several busses over talking to his friend like he is everyday. THis is when the Assistant P. told me the boys parents were there friday afternoon when all this happened and he talked to them since he didn't have a record they were going to suspend him from the bus. first he told me they didnt see the video until monday morning and now he says it was friday after it happened. first he told me the driver was right by the bus now it is out that the driver was never by his bus and usually is not. My son is a very small 6th grader could easlily be mistaken for 3rd or 4th grader. Since we have had problems before I requseted the first time to keep my son up front where the driver can see him and have done this several times. HTey did not. After the conversation the AP looked at my son and said "This boy has never been in trouble before it seems to me that it looks like you guys were horsplaying and it got out of hand" My son looked confused and I ended conversation right there. We tried to press charges on all 4 boys involved but the commonwealth atty said according to the video we could only press charges on the boy that was punching him in the head. Virginia has an A++ rating on their anti- bulling laws. But we feel like we have been looked over and shoved to the side. THey have still failed to provide him with coulnseling or anything. Is there anything we can do? It should not have to wait until my son is a statistic on tv. Please advise

    • ANSWER:
Yes , what are you waiting for . Get a attorney so that he or she can send a letter to the school board and the state you live in government . You should go to the media also because bullying is very high now a days . For your son sake talk to high superiors because a lot of young people been committing suicide .

  50. QUESTION:
    Electronic Harrassment Device? HELP!?
My neighbors have some sort of device that emits some sort of energy that causes my muscles to spasm uncontrollably when it is focused on them, and it causes the muscels in my head to tighten up and gives me the worst headache I have ever experienced in my life. It causes ringing in my ears and my eyes twitch a little bit. It has also caused my laptop computer to shut off and my lights to flicker.

Anybody have any ideas what this device is, how can I prove that there is a device being used (some sort of EM Energy detector or something), is this energy harmful, what should I do?
