My Ear Ringing Do Do

Written By: admin - Aug• 13•12

I'm guessing you have been suffering from strange noises in your ears?

To some, the sounds come in the form of ringing, to others they can be buzzing, popping or even the sounds of crickets chirping.

Sound familiar? Don't panic, no you are not losing your mind and yes you have probably been losing sleep. What I have described above is a condition known as tinnitus.

Without a lengthy explanation, tinnitus comes about when the fine inner ear hairs are damaged or flattened.

Inner ear hairs usually stand straight up, vibrating from all the sounds around us.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What should I do about my ear ringing?
I have had a ringing in my ear for about a week. My brother has just had an ear infection that made him lose 90% of his hearing in his ear and I visited him and the next day this started. I'm in Maryland where it snowed 2 feet. I had an appointment on Friday that was canceled, I have an appointment today that was canceled. I don't have health insurance. I don't know if there are any home remedies or not and if I should go to the emergency room or wait out the weather until tomorrow (hopefully).

    • ANSWER:
Go to the ER. They have to treat you and will get you a follow-up appointment with a Doc. If it is just tinnitus, they can take care of it in the ER if they can find the source (sometimes it is related to certain medications (Lasix) and sometimes it is related to infections in the middle or inner ear. DON'T wait for the weather to break. If it is something that can be taken care of in the ER, the sooner you take care of it the better. If not, the sooner you get to a specialist, the better for you. Any money you spend on your health will not be wasted money.

  2. QUESTION:
How do I stop ear ringing from fluid, it's been six weeks!!!?

  3. QUESTION:
Can cotton in the air be a reason my left ear is ringing?
I've only realized my left ear ringing loudly for the past two days. It's Summer, and there's a lot of white cotton things in the air, could that be a reason why it is ringing, because it's inside? And what can I do to get rid of it, decongestants?

    • ANSWER:
Cottonwood trees can trigger breathing problems but I've never heard of it affecting the ears. You need to see an ENT specialist. (Ears, nose, throat) Lots of things can trigger ringing in the ears, so please see an ETN doctor right away. If your family doctor has to refer you to one, then ask him to do so. A specialist deals with ringing in the ears all the time, so your case isn't unique in any way.

  16. QUESTION:
How long does this ear ringing last?
so i was without headphones for my ipod for like 4 months and i just bought some more this week. i was listening to to it for like 2 hrs straight with the volume at max. so i took the headphones and out, and there has been a ringing in my ears for like the last 20 min. i know its because of the high volume, but is it suppose to last this long..how long does it last?

    • ANSWER:
Hate to tell you this, but if you have ringing after that, you've caused permanent hearing damage. It could be permanent.... or it could only last a day or so. Either way, you are making a very bad decision to wear those headphones on full blast. I know iPods go over 85 dB, and anything over that can and will cause hearing loss within a couple hours or LESS.

If you want to conserve your hearing, turn it down and leave it there. If it's too loud around you, don't listen. The higher you turn that volume, the less time you can listen without causing permanent damage

The max volume on an iPod is 115 db... and the amount of safe exposure PER DAY for that volume is... (according to OSHA) 15 minutes. After that you are causing permanent damage to the hair cells in your cochlea. And after those hair cells die, they don't come back EVER.

Anywho... be smart. Turn down the volume and try to keep it at 50% or so. If you need to turn it over 75%, it's too loud and you need to just not listen.

After kids starting using iPods... there has been a 400% increase in hearing loss of FOURTH graders. I can only imagine what the increase is for teens and 20-somethings. You don't want hearing aids by the time you're 30... believe me. It is something you need to take seriously now.

What if I have tinnitus (ear ringing) but no hearing loss?
My hearing tests reveal no hearing loss so what does this mean? Everything online talks about noise induced hearing loss but in my case my ears started ringing because of a bad cold. Does this mean I'm going to lose my hearing soon?

    • ANSWER:
No. You will not lose your hearing if you take measures of things you should know about tinnitus. 26. QUESTION:
how do i treat ear ringing?
my ears are ringing, and I read there is no cure? Ideas? Do homeopathic remedies work?

    • ANSWER:
There is actually no cure for tinnitus with the conventional medicine. Actually, since last many years, the onus has been on the herbal industry to provide relief, if any, to tinnitus sufferers.

Tinnitus is usually due to damage to the microscopic ends of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. Perfect hearing is possible only if these nerves remain healthy and any damage to these nerves results in tinnitus or hearing impairment.

Some herbal remedies exist which can be used to support all body systems involved in helping the ear to perform its tasks of clear hearing and balance, as well as the circulatory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.

Some of the most common herbs & biochemic tissue salts used are
      • Ginkgo Biloba is excellent for a number of cerebral and circulatory disorders. It is probably the most widely-used herb for tinnitus and many sufferers swear by this natural ingredient.
      • Rosemary dilates and strengthens blood vessels and is an excellent circulation tonic. Rosemary is particularly useful for tinnitus that is caused or worsened by high blood pressure and other circulatory conditions.
      • Avena Sativa is effective in reducing high cholesterol levels which can contribute to circulatory problems which cause tinnitus.
      • Wild Hyssop s also useful in reducing pain and inflammation.
      • Salicylic Ac. (30C) is indicated for tinnitus with loud roaring or ringing sounds, which may be accompanied by deafness or vertigo. This remedy is particularly useful in people whose symptoms began with a bout of flu, Meniere’s disease or long-term use of aspirin.
      • Ferrum phosphoricum (Ferrum phos. D6) is a homeopathic biochemic tissue salt which supports the absorption of iron in the body. The protective myelin sheath which surrounds all nerve tissue needs iron to supply this vital nutrient to the nerve cells it encases. Regular use of Ferrum phos. can help to prevent dizziness, headaches and restlessness and is of great benefit for those who tend to feel irritable, tense and tired.
      • Magnesium phosphate (Mag. phos. D6) well-known as a homeopathic painkiller, Mag. phos. is also of great benefit to the health of the nerves. It acts as a natural anti-spasmodic and a nerve and muscle relaxant and is also frequently recommended for stress headaches.

      Hope all this helps

      Good Luck!

I went for a party. I drank two bottle of stout. The music was loud. When I went home, when talking to someone will sound like my voice echoes. Now it no longer echo, but my ear seems to be ringing for a month now. A pharmacist suggested ampicillin, but the ringing continues. My ear is not having pain. Ampicillin? Where do these creatures with white coats come from? Mars? Why would anyone need an antibiotic that destroys 3/4 of your immune system recommend that for your ear damage. You need to support a strong immune system always, not tear it down! Make sure you have plenty of essential fatty acids in your diet, eliminate the sugar, and support low noise levels so your ears can repair. Long exposure to loud noises will permanently damage your ears and create lots of problems as you age. Many of these loud boom box guys are headed for big problems as they age. Any time you go to one of those loud concerts, get some ear protection.

  29. QUESTION:
Why would my ear be ringing?
I went swimming about 4 hours ago and got water in my ear. I poured peroxide in my ear and flipped my head over to get it out and it doesn't feel like there is water in that ear anymore, however the same ear has been ringing for the past 4 hours straight. its not the normal ear ringing that happens sometimes, its much louder and its hard for me to hear out of that ear. what could this be, and what can i do to get rid of it?

    • ANSWER:
Peroxide doesn't make the water dry up, it reacts with the wax in your ear but doesn't flush it out. It probably expanded the wax and there is probably wax touching your eardrum. Try a couple drops of rubbing alcohol instead- that will dry up the water. If you're still getting the problem, get a home flushing kit and flush your ear.

My Left Ear Is Ringing and It's Annoying Me.?
This just started happening yesterday at night. When my iPod died thats when it started, I could just rub my ear and it would stop, but when I woke up this morning when I would rub my ear, it wouldn't stop. Now it's just constant ear ringing and now my ear is really numb. Yes, I do listen to loud music, but I also have allergies. I'm thinking the allergies could be the cause of it, I just want to back this up. Am I right?

    • ANSWER:
There are some other things that can cause ear ringing, and loud music is not good for the ears, so there could be some damage there. There is something called a coclear concussion that occurs from loud music, that can actually cause permanent hearing loss. You can have this checked out with an Ear, Nose Throat specialist.

Wrote all this, then was interested so I looked it up and added the source for you to look at. Loud noise is a very possible cause as well as your sinus problem. Be careful about the loud noise so that it does not become a permanent condition. Good luck.

Ok i just went to Projekt Revolution yesterday, and when I got home last night, my right ear was blocked and ringing. So i went to sleep thinking that it would be better in the morning. Turns out, nothing happened.. Advice on what to do please

    • ANSWER:
The ringing in your ear is the cells of the ear drum dying disallowing you to hear particular frequencies. Don't interpret this as me saying you're going to deaf, it happens to everyone over time. It is why older individuals cannot hear lower frequency noises like younger people can.

It can sometimes take a few days to go away, if your hearing doesn't return to normal though (I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "blocked") then you may want to talk to doctor and make sure everything looks ok in there.

The ringing becomes the primary focus of your ears. notice if you are in a crowded room its hard to hear the conversation you are having with someone 2 feet from you? I get ringing in my right ear when I'm under a lot of emotional stress. It lasts about a week and then gradually goes away.
It could be caused by any of the following:
      Stress
      Too much aspirin, excedrin etc..
      An ear infection
TMJ (tight and tense muscles in jaw/face)
      Loud concerts

You can Google "causes of tinnitus" and see a longer list. Maybe something there will make sense to you.

  44. QUESTION:
    how to stop ear ringing?
so i went hunting yesterday and shot 3 times around 3. it is 7 now they next day and my ear is still ringing. Is there anyway i can make it stop or do i wait it out

    • ANSWER:
this is a condition called tinnitus, where loud sound pressure has caused damage inside the ear, this is usually a short term issue, but can be long term/permanent which would then require medical attention.

give your ears a rest, buy some earplugs, even if its just the cheap disposable foam ones, and wear them, dont listen to music, tv, etc. avoid noisy areas until the ringing goes away.

if it persists, see a doctor.

in future, always wear ear protection in noisy areas, its not worth potentially damaging your hearing for life!

      hope this helps,

      will

  45. QUESTION:
Ear ringing (my brother slapped my ear)?
My brother slapped me in my ear yesterday afternoon and it's still ringing! I don't know what to do or how to get rid of it. Help?

    • ANSWER:
It sounds like ear trauma; you need to check and see if there is exterior swelling; if there is it may be a Traumatic auricular hematoma (cauliflower ear). A lot of boxers and professional fighters get this from blows to the ear. Ear ringing is quite common when someone suffers from a recent injury or blow to the ear. The force of the slap is enough to send vibrations through the tiny little bones in your ears. I think that you may have a swollen inner ear and that is what is making the ringing sound (fluids moving around and circulating especially if your ear canal is swollen). The best bet is to go see an ear specialist.

  48. QUESTION:
Ear infection - ear ringing - help!?
Last Monday I came down with what I thought was an ordinary flu virus: dizziness, extreme fever, dry/tight cough, short of breathe, vomiting, etc. Because I have had a previous history with minor asthma, my Doctor just prescribed me two inhalers; a ordinary blue Ventolin, and an orange Flovent. And because I was very stuffed up, she also prescribed a nasal spray called: omnaris (ciclesonide). She also said to get an OTC cough medicine with DM, so I got Buckley's DM.

By the weekend, I still had little improvement in my symptoms. To make things worst, I woke up Saturday morning with what I knew right away was an ear infection. Lot's of pressure in my ear, and a constant ringing. So I went to the Hospital right away Saturday morning. The ER Doctor said yes I do indeed have an ear infection, and he said it appears I also have pneumonia, so he prescribed me an antibiotic called Avelox (moxifloxacin). He said it is one of the most effective antibiotics for treating pneumonia, and ear infections. Within 48 hours my fever had broke, my cough loosened up and all my flu/pneumonia symptoms had dissipated. So the Avelox seemed to have worked for that.

But, my ear has had no improvement what so ever. It still has the throbbing pressure and a continual ringing in my ear. I was concerned, so on Tuesday (which would have been 72 hours since I started the antibiotics) I went to a family Doctor and told him about my ear. He looked in my ear, said it is inflamed and infected, but he said that Avelox antibiotic should clear it up, and I'll have to wait it out before he can do anything else. And if it's not better by the time I'm done my antibiotics, then to go back.

Well it's been 7 days on my antibiotics. I only have 3 doses left (1 a day). My pneumonia/flu symptoms are gone. I don't feel congested and my sinuses are clear. But there is still no improvement whatsoever to my ear. It's still throbbing, full of pressure and it still has a constant annoying high-pitched ringing. I've never had an ear infection and this very concerning. Does anyone have experience with ear infections where they've had a constant ringing?

I should also mention my mom looked in my ear and observed that far down, it is very clogged up with a dry, solid wax. I stopped using the nasal spray: 1) Because my sinuses feel clear. and 2) Because I think it may be contributing to the dried up ear wax. I've also been very careful to not let water get in my ears in the shower.

Does anyone have any experience with ear infections? Is this ringing common? I was also wondering if it is possible that this dried up wax that is clogging my ear is what may be part of the problem? My mom said it's too far down (and too dangerous) to try and pick at. She said sometimes, when people have that, they sometimes put a couple drops of olive oil in the ear, and let the wax run out? My Doctor didn't say anything about the clogged wax. Of course I can wait this out another 3 days on my antibiotics, but after 7 days, there is zero improvement. Any comments, suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  49. QUESTION:
Ringing ear during a middle ear infection?
I went to my doctor with a stuffed ear, it hindered my hearing making everything softer on Saturday. It was only my left ear and when I went, he said it is because I had a cold, liquid pressure build up behind the ear drum makes my ear feel like that. He also said he noticed some redness and said there may be a middle ear infection and prescribed ran-cefprozil 500 MG tablets to take twice daily to help me out. Sunday night, I began to hear my right ear ring, after my left ear seemed noticeably better and my right ear was becoming worse. This ringing only comes form the right ear, and I am still on the medication and today is the third day of me hearing it and am beginning to worry about getting tinnitus. This ringing has been constant but the thing is if it was an ear infection, my ear would hurt no? And I would also have a fever or something. I do dot have many symptoms but having a headache from little sleep due to the noise. I am beginning to wonder if this is an infection at all, and if ringing in the ear while it feels clogged is normal? Should I go back and get s second opinion or something?

    • ANSWER:
I have a ringing in my ear, it has lasted for years, it is mild enough i only hear it when i think about it or sit around in silence. It has never gone away except for short periods when my ears pop. It never goes away, you will be stuck with it for the rest of your life.
